Founded in 2017 by Veterinary Neurologist Dr Sam Long, Victorian Veterinary Neurology provides specialist care for a range of neurological conditions, and is Victoria's only private Veterinary Neurology clinic.

Dr Sam Long is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology and one of only a handful of Specialist Neurologists in Australia.  After building a successful neurology service at Melbourne University's UVet teaching hospital in Werribee and working at CARE he has now joined the Veterinary Referral Hospital in Dandenong where he continues to provide Melbourne's first private referral neurology and neurosurgery services along with a neurology resident (in training) and registrar.

Dr Long graduated from Melbourne University before undergoing his residency and specialist training in Glasgow in the UK. Following his specialist training he undertook a PhD in canine brain cancer before moving to the United States to take up a position as head of the Section of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania's Veterinary Hospital.  In 2008 Dr Long returned to Melbourne to establish the University of Melbourne Veterinary Hospital's first ever Neurology clinical service and specialist training programme.

Dr Long left the University in 2017 to join CARE and set up Melbourne's first private referral neurology service, before moving to VRH with his team in 2020.  He has adjunct appointments with the University of Melbourne, St Vincent's Hospital and the Bionics Institute, with which he continues his research collaborations.  His research interests are in the field of brain tumours, canine epilepsy, canine spinal cord trauma and canine degenerative myelopathy.  Dr Long has authored more than 30 papers and four book chapters.

Some of the diseases we commonly treat include:
